We have broken down a kit from Fox to help you decide on whether it is worth buying and overall we were happy with the kit. Actually out of all the pre-made kits on the market, this one was our best pick. Keep in mind this kit is designed for one person but can be easily added to for two or three.
Fox Emergency – Bug Out Bag
1. Value for Money
The emergency survival 72 hour bug out bag by Fox Tactical gives great value for money. The bag comes with an array of items and still has plenty of room left over after that. Spacious and sturdy, the bag is a great kit for a beginner.
2. Sturdy Bug Out Backpack
The carry handle and the shoulder straps allow you to carry the bag the way you want since it weighs 15lbs. The kit is ideal for a beginner survivalist since it comes equipped with the basics and with multiple access zippers, this gives you the ease of splitting up your gear and still keeping order.
Excellent for Beginners
The kit may be good enough for a beginner, but for an experienced survivalist there are a certain things this bag lacks. The Meals Ready to Eat (MRE) are not the greatest quality.
Add Your Own First Aid Kit
Neither does the kit come with any kind of first aid gear, so you have to stock up on your own. Check out this post on what to pack for your first aid kit. The quality of the torch varies at times but is good enough for 72 hours of survival.
Contents of the Kit
1. The Bag:
The bag itself is a sturdy contraption made with tough polyester. The kit is primarily segregated in to three sections – one large compartment at the bottom and two pockets at the side.
The back panel of the bag is padded and has ventilation. It has a zipper at the side and it can be used as a compartment for your laptop. The bag has a pocket for accessories with an electronic zipper.
The back pack straps are padded for comfort and the length can be adjusted. The kidney belt is padded too, and can be detached.
2. First Aid Kit:
The bag comes with basic medical supplies but no actual medication since they are perishable. Make sure to stock up on any specific medication that you might need or simple things such as aspirin, diarrhea, antibiotics, etc. Fox Tactical provides an Adventure Medical Kits SOL Hybrid 3 which has all the basics to keep you safe in the great outdoors.
Not only does the bag come with survival gear but it contains items to keep your things in good shape as well. There is a para-cord of 100 feet that is extremely strong and impervious to any kind of rot. The rope comes from Gladding which is a supplier for the Department of Defence in the U.S.
4. MRE Food and Water:
The bag is equipped with six calorie food bars which are 400 calories each. There are two MREs and 18 packets of drinking water which are 4.22 oz. each.
This emergency food should be good for 5 years, but you can easily replace them whenever you want. I have included a guide to emergency food on another post so check it out here…
5. Shelter and Warmth:
Even though the bag is meant for a single person, there is one 2 person tent in the kit. There is one emergency blanket and a poncho. A 36 hour candle and packets of storm-proof and water-proof candles are also part of the survival kit. There is also a magnesium fire starter with a striker.
The bag has basics items of hygiene and sanitation. One respiration mask, one toothbrush and toothpaste, one roll of toilet paper, one packet of tissues, one packet of shower-in-a-bag and six wet napkins make up the sanitation supplies of the bug out bag.
